nongovernmental organisation
Voluntary group of individuals or organizations, usually not affiliated with any government (though often funded by governments), that is formed to provide services or to advocate a public policy. NGO are active in humanitarian, educational, health care, public policy, social, human rights, environmental, and other areas to affect changes according to their objectives.
Most nongovernmental organizations are non-profit organisations.
